Historical press articles of the Archives of HWWA and IfW

ZBW (Leibniz Information Center for Economics)

Emerging from the library of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) and the Information Centre of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWA) the ZBW is now the world's largest information center for economics literature.

In its archives the ZBW houses Europe's largest open-access press clipping archive the updates of which have been discontinued at the end of 2005. In order to make this cultural heritage more visible to a broader and interested public the ZBW offers the "Pressemappe 20th century"

Mission

In the context of the project „Retrospective digitisation of historical press articles on paper, roll film and microform of the Archives of HWWA and IfW“, the historical press clippings of both institutions from the beginning of the 20th century to the monetary reform 1948 or to the foundation of the Federal Republic 1949 were digitised. The project was funded by DFG (German Research Foundation).

The documents concerned are press articles, annual reports, festschrifts and other papers dealing with public figures, products or groups of products, companies and other bodies as well as subject matters from the world economy. Altogether, the documents from the above named period amount to 5,7 million approximately. Until recently, access to those collections was possible only in the Kiel or Hamburg archives. Thanks to the DFG-funded project the documents were digitised and are now made available for online retrieval.

Reuse / license conditions

The metadata created by the ZBW during or after the above DFG project is available for reuse under the terms of the CCO license. The legal regulations apply here, but ZBW can not issue licenses for the scanned documents. See also "terms of use"
